What made you decide to start your blog? And why did you start sewing and/or knitting?

Initially I started a blog to share my love of sewing and fashion with anyone looking for something original. That’s because it’s seriously such a luxury to make your own wardrobe!

How did you learn to sew and/or knit?

I started sewing when I was seven. My mum was my mentor (and still is by the way...). By starting to sew, I also made headway in other areas. I gained an increasing level of expertise in different sewing and DIY techniques.

If you had to choose, which would you pick: sewing or knitting?

Oh, for that dilemma my answer is obvious: sewing ! I'm terribly impatient and I absolutely adore fabrics, both the fabric and the prints. I wouldn’t miss picking them out for all the money in the world.

However, I did pick up knitting this year. I bumped into some d-i-v-i-n-e wool in the loveliest colours. The biggest advantage of knitting is that you can keep knitting wherever you are. You don't have to lug a sewing machine around with you.

Were you creative when you were little?

I think so. I've always been extremely interested in anything handmade. I get bored easily, which frequently leads to daydreaming. And that’s when the ideas start to flow.

Where did you get the name – Mydress Made – for your blog? And why that one in particular?

Mydress Made is the outcome of a brainstorm during a romantic weekend in Marrakesh, five years ago. I was looking for a name that would reflect the ‘handmade’ quality of my blog posts and felt like Mydress Made expressed that nicely.

What do you think is your finest creation? Which one do your feel most proud of?

I get the most satisfaction out of the coats and swimwear I make. I'm always astounded that I can pull off such technically challenging feats so well.

For people who don’t sew or knit, how would you convince them to give it a go?

Sewing is really time that's just for you. It’s the perfect outlet after a hard day’s work. And for me personally...nothing beats the originality of your own homemade garments. Everything you create is completely tailored to you.

What drives you the most batty when sewing?

ZIPS! Really and truly – they give me nightmares!

Finding inspiration is part of the sewing process. Where do you find yours?

I'm a born people watcher, which means that my biggest source of inspiration is also just observing people (and their outfits) on the street.

What does your sewing room look like?

I almost always sew in our living room. That way I can enjoy the cosy company of my family while I sew.

What’s on your sewing to-do wish list?

I'm looking forward to sharing even more with our fantastic sewing community and planning on having even more fun with new designers and their patterns.

Do you have a golden tip in mind for our starter Sewistas?

Accentuate a detail (e.g. a collar or belt) by adding matte gold trim. It looks incredibly chic!
