After a year of being stuck at home, the light at the end of the tunnel is finally within view. The vaccine drive is starting to kick into high gear and measures are gradually being relaxed. But we’re not quite there yet. And that’s why we want to share a few tips to make the final housebound stretch feel a little lighter – so that we can cross the finish line together.

Tip 1: Self care

After a year of being housebound, everyone is feeling drained. That’s why it’s especially important for you to spoil yourself occasionally. Take time to relax and give your mind and body a chance to rest. For example, a hot bath is a fantastic way to spend some quality me-time. You can infuse your home with wellness by lighting a candle and adding some essential oils or a bath bomb to the water. Meditation can also give you a sense of peace. There are loads of different meditation techniques; try some of them out until you hit the right match for you. You could also come up with a skincare routine to finish off your day. That will give you something to look forward to every day, a time to unwind.

Tip 2: Friends

Keeping your social life alive is more important now than ever, even though the face-to-face aspect is a bit tricky. That’s why we’ve thrown together a few ideas to make your next video date with friends a little livelier. For example, you could all make (or order) something yummy and enjoy a virtual brunch. You can also never go wrong with a fun ‘telehobby’ session. Start, by teaching your friends something you’ve learned about sewing. Or why not video call a sewing buddy while sewing? You could also play an online quiz and compete with hands-on activities. There are plenty of ideas to keep video calls interesting.

Tip 3:  Outfits

Now it’s time to get to the point though, to our favourite tip.  What’s a teensy advantage to spending so much time at home? You can wear comfy clothes all day! Homewear – you know we love it! But wait just a tick, because even before we all ended up stuck at home, this style was trending.

For the past few years, the focus on making life more comfortable has only become more prominent. Back in 2016, trendsetters could be spotted everywhere sporting cosy styles. That’s when athleisure wear started to make inroads on the street scene. It’s a look that combines the best of the sports and leisure.  Since then, everyone is sure to have a pair of trainers at home to spiff up their clothing style. When the pandemic hit, the longing for cosy clothes only got bigger. Exit athleisure wear and enter ultra-comfy homewear.

Our styling tips

Don’t be afraid to venture outside of the box.  Homewear isn’t limited to wearing the same pair of grey tracksuit bottoms every day. In fact, you can shelve those tracksuit bottoms for a while. Why not try making your favourite patterns in an ultra-comfortable fabric? After all, our patterns are ideal for transforming into amazingly stylish homewear.

Choosing the right fabric is key. That way you can conjure up a fab, oh-so-cosy jumpsuit with your sewing machine in no time. The keyword here is comfortable. Not sure what the right fabric is? The fabrics that lend themselves best to comfort are sweatshirt and jersey fabrics. Although any stretchy fabric will do in a pinch. Check out our new fabric collection; you’re sure to find the perfect loungewear fabric there.

However, the type of fabric isn’t the only thing that counts, the colour or print also provides you with a wealth of options for creating the perfect items. Are you all about matching? Coordinate your outfit by making two garments in the same fabric. That way you instantly look smart without having to put a lot of effort into your outfit. Prints and patterns are another way to tilt your loungewear up to the next level. It’s a chance to make your outfits stand out just that little bit more.

These tips are sure to get you through those last weeks fashionably. Not to worry though, because homewear is set to stay on-trend, even after the pandemic blows over.

We’ve already put together a pack of five patterns you can use to make your ultimate homewear collection: Mika, Frikka, Hazel, Pina and Benita. Feel Good in Fibre Mood!
